3M™ Series 50 Scotchcal Graphics Film

3M™ Scotchcal™ Series 50 Electrocut Graphics films are general purpose, colored films that have been specially developed to be knife cut on electronic systems. Because Series 50 films are intermediate, calendered vinyl they are much more cost effective for use in commercial applications, flat signage and crafting projects. It has a clear, pressure-sensitive adhesive with a blue liner on the white films and a white liner on all other film colors. You love the look and performance of this versatile film in both indoor and outdoor applications for thermal mass transfer and electronic cutting. Removable with heat for up to three years and permanent for up to five years of use.

Calendered Versus Cast Films   

What's the difference between calendered and cast vinyl films and why does it matter to you? In essence, cast vinyl and calendered film are made using the same ingredients but the process involved is different. Cast film is produced by first turning the ingredients of the finished film (PVC resin, plasticizer, dye, etc.) into paint by the use of a solvent. The resulting thin, wet vinyl film is then dried and cured at high temperature to form a very flexible film. Calendered film ingredients are melted at about half the temperature used for cast film ingredients. As the calendered vinyl cools, it is rolled through “calendering” rollers to achieve the final width, thickness and surface finish before being wound up for further processing. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

What it comes down to is this: if you want the cheapest film you want a film like Scotchcal Series 50 calendered film. It has a great durability and is meant to be used in plotter-cutters. But, if you want ultra-long lasting performance you want to choose a film like Series 7125 cast vinyl. We offer both but it's important that you know the difference so you get the most for your money.
