Adhesion promoters are one of the most important tools in a wrapper, sign maker or crafter's arsenal. But why do you need a vinyl adhesive promoter in the first place? Well, simply put, not all surfaces and substrates are created equal. You see, in the most basic sense, an adhesion promoter is one of the most convenient methods to improve adhesion of vinyl film to a substrate. Vinyl adhesion promoters are a specialty compound that can react chemically with both the substrate and the self-adhesive vinyl. In terms of the chemistry, it forms covalent bonds across the interface that are both strong and durable.
Adhesion promoter can be applied either as: an internal additive to a formulation or a substrate surface treatment (i.e., as a primer prior to applying the adhesive / sealant). Promoters like 3M™ Automotive Promoter 06396 as as a chemical bridges between the adhesive and the substrate. They also provide an interphase region that is more resistant to chemical attack from the environment.
Adhesion promoters are a type of clear primer ideal for preparing surfaces like fiberglass, aluminum, vinyl, glass, galvanized metal, chrome and plastic for better paint adhesion. They generally come in a sponge, towlet, ampule or can and are fairly easy to apply.
Step 1 Clean the surface of the plastic using ordinary dish soap. Rinse the plastic thoroughly. Allow the surface to dry before applying the adhesion promoter.
Step 2 Spray the adhesion promoter on the plastic. Apply in short spurts rather than soaking the area.
Step 3 Allow the surface to dry for three hours before applying any paint.
Good vinyl but be very careful it does scratch very easy when taking out air bubbles
Great product! I Most definitely recommend this as, it helps when doing exterior modifications to your vehicle. Thx !
