Like it or not, pink is still seen as a feminine color but it wasn’t always that way! In fact, all the back in 1908, an article in the Smithsonian declared that the “generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls.” Somehwere in the 1940’s that these color associations switched and products targeted toward a feminine audience began to use pink. According to the host of the show Radiolab, Robert Krulwich, pink doesn't actually exist. He notes that pink doesn't occupy a slot in the familiar colors of the rainbow — in other words, there's no P in Roy G. Biv. However, in an article in Scientific American, this claim is taken to task and completely refuted. In essence, the authors conclude that pink "is real—or it is not—but it is just as real or not-real as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet." Finding it on a traditional color wheel is another matter altogether however.
Of course, everything depends on the shade of pink but there are a number colors that go well with pink. Pink will sit well with colors close to it on the color wheel (if it were actually to be found there), like reds, and purples. For a complementary theme, you could use green with pink. For highercontrast yellow, blue, and orange can work. It will work with black, white, and grey, silver, and gold too. In short, pink goes with just about everything.
