At the turn of the millennium, Toyota looked towards the youth market as its next conquest because, at the time, its average customer was 54 years old. So began the search for a new way to attract younger buyers. Initially this project was called Exodus but soon became known as Scion and in 2002 the marque was introduced at the NY International Auto Show. The two models that debuted were the xB and tC and, shortly thereafter, the xA debuted in LA.
The xA and xB were idiosyncratic in terms of style and design in order to entice more youthful buyers unimpressed with the status quo. Scion’s marketing campaign was just as unorthodox as their vehicles were which were marketed through social media sites, races, advertisements in movie theaters, posters, and regional viral marketing campaigns.
As the second decade of the millennium went on, Scion saw its sales continue to decline but still decided to release the Scion iQ (based on the Toyota iQ previously for sale in Europe) in 2012. The last models to be badge under the Scion were the Scion FR-S and iM. The FR-S was based on the Toyota FT-86 co-developed with Subaru and was meant to be an entry-level sports car. Unfortunately for Scion, nothing could save the brand from slumping sales and in 2016 its last two models were re-badged as Toyotas.
The best way to figure out how much vinyl your Scion will need is by using this simple formula. Take the length of your vehicle and multiply it by three (one for each side and the roof, hood and trunk) plus an extra 5 to 10 feet for bumpers, rocker panels, spoilers and mistakes. The following example should help:
Please note: Scion vehicle wraps are meant for application only on OEM paint jobs.
