At Rvinyl we have tried to make the installation of tail light tint kits as easy to understand as possible and, even though they are not required, we do suggest that every installer, from DIY enthusiast to pro, use the correct tools and fluids for the job. What this means for you is that you should be sure to have a squeegee with friction sleeve as well as Rapid Prep and Rapid Tac solutions at hand before you take the tints out of the sealed bag.

Rtint Smoked Films come in two different shades of smoke. The darkness of the shade is measured in a VLT (Variable Light Transmission) percentatge. This number measures the amount of light that can be transmitted through the tint naturally with no backlighting coming from a bulb. The higher the number, the the brighter the light will be that is allowed to pass through and the least amount of effective it will have on light output. The lower the number, the darker your light will appear. It works opposite of window tint VLT as you are trying to make the light appear darker on the outside rather than from the inside. Rtint® Smoke film, which is by far our most popular shade, will smoke your lights by about 38% while still allowing 62% of light to enter the housing. It will not block 38% of backlighting coming from a bulb, but will certainly have an affect on light output.

  • Blackout Smoke Tint: 5% VLT
  • Smoke Tint: 38% VLT

Is there any way to have "SS" cut into the tint so the only thing that's seen is red SS?

Hi, unfortunately we cannot do it, However if you have a cricut machine you can by following these steps: Using a Cricut machine to cut a design like "SS" into tint film involves several steps. Here's a guide on how to do it: Design Preparation: Create or obtain a digital design of the "SS" logo. You can use design software compatible with Cricut, like Adobe Illustrator or Cricut's own Design Space. Ensure the design is in a format that the Cricut machine can read, typically SVG or DXF files. Cricut Design Space: Upload your "SS" design to the Cricut Design Space. Adjust the size of your design to fit the area where you plan to apply the tint film. Position the design on the virtual canvas in the Design Space to correspond with where you'll place the tint film on the Cricut cutting mat. Preparing the Tint Film: Cut a piece of tint film to fit your Cricut cutting mat. The size of the film should be slightly larger than the "SS" design. Place the tint film onto the cutting mat, making sure it's flat and secure. The tint film should be placed with the liner side down on the mat. Cutting Settings: In Cricut Design Space, select the material type that closely matches the properties of your tint film. If your film is similar to vinyl, you might choose the "Vinyl" setting. Adjust the blade depth and pressure according to the thickness and texture of the tint film. This might require some trial and error to get right. Cutting the Film: Load the mat with the tint film into the Cricut machine. Follow the prompts in Cricut Design Space to start the cutting process. Once the machine has finished cutting, unload the mat. Weeding the Film: Carefully remove the excess film, leaving only the "SS" design cut out on the liner. This process is known as weeding. Use a weeding tool to help lift and remove the small pieces of film from inside the letters. Application: After weeding, you can apply transfer tape to the top of your design to transfer it onto the desired surface. Carefully position and adhere the design, then remove the transfer tape. Final Adjustments: Ensure that the design is applied smoothly without air bubbles. Make any necessary adjustments or touch-ups. Remember, working with tint film requires patience and precision, especially when weeding intricate designs. Practice on smaller pieces before attempting the final project.
