What Are Camouflage Vinyl Wraps?

You can apply camouflage vinyl wraps to a variety of surfaces, including vehicles. The camo pattern on the wrap can make a car or truck more visually appealing. Since it's camo, the wrap can also help you car blend into certain environments.

The camouflage wrap's dual cast vinyl keeps discoloration and deformation from happening during the installation process. The application process uses pressure-sensitive adhesives and air drain technology, preventing bubbling or damage due to oxidation after installation. Additionally, you won't need to use additional fluid or glues to apply these wraps. Just clean the surface, add some heat with a hairdryer or heat gun and squeegee on.

Different Types of Vinyl Wraps Available

The two top brands on the market are 3M™ and Rwraps™. Both of these options offer several styles and attractive colors to choose from, plus a guarantee of quality. As you decide which brand you're interested in buying a vinyl wrap from, look at what each one has to offer and how each one matches up to your needs:

3M™

A leader in the vinyl wrap market, 3M™ offers highly-dependable wraps for vehicles, laptops, hunting equipment and a variety of other personal items. The 1080 Series dual-cast films have a lifespan of five to seven years, longer than others in the industry. They can resist alkalis, acids, fuel spills, salt and water. For those who want to place the wraps on vehicles, the extra protection is a must-have.

Some of the most popular 3M™ camouflage vinyl wraps are:

  • 3M™ Wrap Film Series 1080 - Shadow Black. The 3M™ Wrap Film Series 1080 - Shadow Black has an aggressive, stylish look. If you like a darker vehicle, but want to add some personality to it, you'll love the look of shadow black. The blacked-out appearance of the vehicle won't immediately draw attention, letting you navigate your city inconspicuously, but when people do notice your vehicle, they'll be impressed by the stunning design.
  • 3M™ Wrap Film Series 1080 - Shadow Military Green. The 3M™ Wrap Film Series 1080 - Shadow Military Green is a favorite among people who like the classic look of military camo, but with a darker slant. The wrap's 3.5 mil thick vinyl ensures that your wrap will hold up over time. Shadow camo takes the classic green look of camo and gives it a fresh new appearance. The matte finish provides a semi-glossed appearance that's both refined and subtle.
  • 3M™ 2080 Series Camouflage Wrap. To get the most out of your wraps, you'll also want to look into purchasing a 3M™ 2080 Series Camouflage Wrap. An upgrade to the 1080 Series, these wraps provide the same attractive patterns and appearance, while also offering an improvement to the wraps'' conformability and durability. The improved multi-layered, cast vinyl needs even less heat than ever before to wrap into crevices and around curves. With this new series, you'll be much less likely to over-stretch or over-heat a wrap.

Rwraps™

Another great option for camouflage wraps is Rwraps™. Compared to 3M™ wraps, they come in more styles and colors. Whether you're looking for a classic woodland camo look or want to spice things up with a digital camo or urban camo pattern, you can find it in the Rwraps™ Camouflage Vinyl Wraps collection.

Rwraps offers lots of variety and choice, with 20 different patterns. Sheet sizes range from widths of 12, 24 or 60 inches and lengths of up to 10 yards. Some of the most popular Rwraps™, styles are:

  • Arctic Camouflage. Rwraps™ Camouflage Vinyl Film Wrap - Arctic Camouflage is a great pick if you want a wintertime color palette. The wraps offer a dynamic color representation that provides both aesthetic and functional value. Whether you want to make a statement with an arctic appearance or are going hunting in the wintertime, these wraps are the way to go.
  • Grass Blades. Rwraps™ Camouflage Vinyl Film Wrap - Grass Blades are the best wraps if you are hoping to create a natural, wetland grass pattern on your vehicle. They are especially popular on ATVs and other equipment used for duck hunting. Like the other films in the Rwraps™ camo series, this type of wrap will not fade, peel or crack. Additionally, the wraps are all scratch-resistant, which means that they will stand up to everyday wear and tear.
  • Digital Camouflage. Rwraps™ Camouflage Vinyl Film Wrap - Digital Camouflage uses a four-color, pixelated digital pattern that provides your wrap with a modern, military appearance. This film wrap is stylish and will make a statement if used as a full vehicle wrap or an accent for the interior trim of a vehicle. For more functional purposes that require camo, this type of wrap is effective at concealing an item at a close distance and even more so at further range.
  • Tree Camouflage. Rwraps™ Camouflage Vinyl Film Wrap - Tree Camouflage offers the most realistic tree camouflage patterns available today. The pattern is an excellent pick if you want your car, SUV, truck, boat or ATV to have an outdoorsman look. Tree camouflage is also a favorite among hunters who use the wraps to conceal their hunting stands.
  • Urban Digital. TheRwraps™ Camouflage Vinyl Film Wrap - Urban Digital is a popular pick for people who want their motorcycle or other vehicles to have an urban-warfare ready appearance. Other than its automotive use, you can apply it to architectural and marine surfaces. The large chunky pixels in gray, green and brown colors reminds some people of Minecraft, making it the perfect wrap for a laptop or gaming device.

Cover Applications for Camo Vinyl

Cover Applications for Camo Vinyl

Not sure if our Rwraps™ Camo is up to the job you have in mind? Don't worry! They can be used on any non-porous, hard surface and are rated for indoor and outdoor use. So, whether you want to wrap the stock of a rifle, your basement bar's backsplash or anything else, we've got you covered. Just in case you need some inspiration, here are a few ideas customers have shared with us:

1. Hunting Vehicles

For those who take their truck hunting, a woodland wrap is a go-to choice. Whether you want to add camo accents to parts of your truck like the hood or interior trim, you have a wide range of wrap options. Additionally, if you need to go deep into the woods or to areas where there aren't any roads, an ATV is a must-have. If you use one, tricking it out with woodland, tree or marsh camo can help it say concealed.

2. Rifles

One of the top applications of camo is on hunting equipment. Camo vinyl film on your rifle can help you conceal it so that you don't give your position away to prey. Along with its ability to conceal you from wildlife, the vinyl wrap can be applied onto your entire rifle to increase its durability. As the wraps are easy to install and remove, you can swap out your wrap based on the environment you're hunting in.

3. Personalized Gifts for Outdoorsmen

You can also apply wraps to a variety of hunting equipment and personal items. If you're looking to find a gift for the outdoorsman in your life, camouflage wraps are an ideal choice. You can apply them to a hunting knife, water bottle, hunting stands, game cameras and a variety of other hunting devices.

For those who like to personalize their day-to-day items with a camo-like appearance, they'll love to get the newest phone or tablet pre-wrapped in stylish camo. Outdoorsmen who want to show off their passion for hunting are proud to wrap their laptops, tablets and phones in specialty camo.

4. Home Decoration

If you want to add some extra decoration to a man-cave or trophy room, look no further than camo-wraps. They can cover an entire wall or an entire bar, which gives you plenty of flexibility to craft an engaging, highly personalized look for a room. The range of colors that vinyl wraps come in will help you to find one that fits the rest of your home's color scheme.

Benefits of Camo Vinyl Versus Paint

Should you paint your vehicle with a camo pattern or use a vinyl wrap? Vinyl wraps typically prove to be the better value compared to paint. If price, quality, durability and visual appeal matter to you, a wrap is usually the better bet. If you need more convincing, here are a few ways wraps beat paint:

  • They're more realistic-looking. One of the main appeals of wrapping a vehicle instead of painting it is the realistic look of the vinyl. Typically, camo paint jobs end up looking less like camouflage and more like paint trying to resemble camo. In contrast, the printed graphics used on vinyl resemble the real thing.
  • They don't have residual fumes/paint smell. Paint usually has a strong odor, which can be unpleasant for many. If you paint your hunting rifle, the scent could give your position away to wildlife. Additionally, the residual fumes that come from a paint job can be harmful if you inhale them. To be as safe as possible and to avoid unpleasant smells, it's best practice to go with vinyl wraps.
  • They're more durable. Vinyl wraps protect your vehicle and other possessions from wear and tear. In contrast, a painted car will be susceptible to damage from roadside debris and other weather-related concerns. Chipped paint will be a thing of the past with a strong vinyl laminate that keeps your vehicle fresh day in and day out.
  • They're cost-effective. Wraps are far easier on the wallet than a full paint job. Even the highest-quality vinyl offered by industry leaders like 3M™ and Rwrap™ are going to be significantly less expensive than taking your car or personal item in to get painted. Since vinyl wraps cost less than a paint job, you'll have the freedom to switch out your tree camo look for a marsh camo look, or whatever else you want without straining your budget.
  • DIY-friendly. The great part about 3M™ and Rwraps™ products is how easy they are to install. The air drain technology and pressure-sensitive adhesives of the films make for a simple application process. You won't need extra glues or flues to get the wraps to stick appropriately. Instead, all you'll need to do is clean the surface, heat it up with a heat gun or hairdryer and, finally, squeegee the wrap on.

3M Matrix Black
by Great product, way long to receive, 3.50

My gripe is not with the product. It is very modern looking and pretty easy to apply, even for a beginner like me. My issue is with the company and it's shipping practices. I had to place two orders for the same material.. ran out at the last minute. BOTH orders took 13-14 days to arrive. Even with standard shipping, this is unacceptable. I will use the product again, but look elsewhere for procuring it.

I am super impressed with the quality and ease of install.

This was my first time using 3M wraps and I am super impressed with the quality and ease of install.
I did a hood wrap accent using 3M Matrix Black (MX12) and 3M precision line knifeless tape. No surprises with the knifeless tape, just prep the paint really well so that it is clean. The matrix black is a bit thick and has some texture, so I opted for the heavy duty "precision line" knifeless tape that has a small metal wire, rather than the "finish line" product.

The results look professional. The matrix texture mimics some of the plastics on the van, so it really blends in nicely and provides some rock chip protection.
I'm super happy with how it turned out and have recommended the 3M products and rvinyl on the ford transit usa forum.
