I used this material to cover the after market door cards on my Miata. The material is very thin and easy to apply. The look is exactly what I was after. Very happy with the way it came out.

It was my first time wrapping anything so I struggled just a bit but other then that it was overall great. What worked for me personally was that I used a spray I got off Amazon to start a wet application. Then I used a heat gun to work it onto the valance of my car. It looks great applies nicely and easy to manipulate for edges and curves. Let’s hope it last me for a respectable amount of time. Other then that great product and I would purchase again!

Everything I wanted, and more!

Let’s start at the beginning. Your site made it very easy to find and order exactly what I wanted, in the size I needed. My package arrived quite quickly and was packed very well. The carbon fiber looks very realistic, with great texture. And it looks fantastic, now that it’s been applied. Now for a little critical news. The directions that came in the tube with my wrap are woefully inadequate, and a bit cartoonish. Watching your application video, while helpful, ran way too fast for this old man (70) and made the project look much simpler than it actually is. I’ve done this before, with a black -out hood panel on a Land Rover, using a spray bottle of slightly soapy water on the surface first before applying the vinyl. After I laid it down, I squeegeed the water out and the vinyl went down without a wrinkle in sight. I must admit that I’ve had previous experience working in a sign shop, and that’s how it was done. No such instructions were offered this time, so I didn’t try it here. Wish I had, though. It was not as easy to apply as your video implied. There was no pulling it back up if it touched the metal, which, by the way, was cool and in a garage. And cleaned properly first. I managed to get it on (with help from a friend) but encountered some small bubbles here and there, and a few wrinkles I was able to pull up and try again, but only because they were near an edge. I won’t remove it and try again with a new piece (too expensive for that)
and it’s an older car, so I’ll live with it. The bubbles don’t readily show unless I point them out, but I am left with a bit of a blemish on one side, roughly six inches square, which bothers me sometimes. I think it formed when I worked that section a bit too much to remove bubbles. I’ll get over it. The overall look is fabulous, and that’s what counts. I just wish I wasn’t a bit haunted by that image of your installer in the video who easily picked up the vinyl he was applying, and shook it out to reapply it more smoothly. I suspect it was a different type than the carbon fiber piece I was applying, because it looked much shinier than mine. Oh well. Very nice product, though, and looks great!

How much should i need for my 2011 camaro hood and trunk
January 23, 2020 3:29 PM
We usually recomend 5 - 7yds, but you should always measure and give your self a little extra for your Camaro. This will allow for a margin of error and leave you with some extra film to potentially re-wrap some problem areas. We have two great articles you can read to help in your buying decision:

How Much Vinyl TO Buy

January 24, 2020 9:52 AM
Is this product suitable to wrap rifle barrels for the purpose of adding to the O.D ?
March 9, 2020 10:25 PM
Yes, this can be applied to the outside diameter of your rife. Many customers use our Camo films for this purpose, but all our wrap films will work for this application.

Will this wrap hold up to the heat of wrapping motorcycle exhaust? And, how much do I need to wrap the exhaust on a vstar 1100?
April 21, 2020 5:59 PM
B-Rad, The end use of this film is around 225°F (107°C). I don't know how hot your exhaust pipe typically gets. You can either experiment with a small portion in an area not very visible, or skip wrapping that part altogether. This is not exhaust tape which is typically used for that application. This is vinyl, like a decal or sticker. Most bikes need around 40-56 square feet for a complete wrap. How much you need to purchase depends on your ability to wrap the pipes, if you want it seamless and how much extra you may need for errors. I would simply measure the area and add 20-25% for mistakes.

Hi, I just want to wrap a guitar pick guard. The guard is plastic of some kind. What’s the best way to do this and what all will I need? Thanks
April 24, 2020 8:11 PM
Kenny, Wrapping your pickguard is a great project for beginners. As it is generally flat and raised you would first trim the piece of film with the paper backing to the slightly larger than what you would need. Make sure the guard has been cleaned properly, you can probably use the cleaners we offer or alcohol. A little research online may help. Simply peel and stick, you could use a hair dryer to help conform it a little bit around the edges. Use a hobby knife or razor to very carefully trim the edges and remove the excess! Hope that helps.

Hi, I have looked everywhere for fender flares for my Dodge pickup and have settled on stainless steel ones because of the low slimline profile, but I don’t want the shiny silver look. Can I wrap these? They fit over the fender wells and bolt or clip on under the fender. I just would need the vinyl to be on the outside visible edges, and it needs to be completely weather and UV resistant. Will this wrap work?
April 30, 2020 8:35 PM
Scott, Yes! This will work for you Fender Flare project. The vinyl film is both UV stable and outdoor rated. Best of all, you can remove it down the line if you decide to go with a different look. I would probably add a sealer pen to your order since the flares get exposed to more elements that other parts of your truck.

I am looking for a product that can be used on leather and may be removal without damage to the substrate. I intend to use this material as a kick plate in a Volvo door to protect the base material. Is this an appropriate application for this product?
May 21, 2020 6:53 PM
Vincent, wraps are generally meant to be applied to hard, non-porous surfaces like the aluminum panels of your Volvo. They may apply and adhere to the leather, but will eventually lift without using 3M Primer 94 in large quantities. We would not recommend this for your application. If you really wanted to move forward with that panel wrap, maybe just try it on one door to make sure it meets your needs.

What is the difference between the 1080 and the 2080?
June 4, 2020 6:21 PM
Rachael, Great questions. Long story short, we have a great article you can read about the differences: 3M™ 2080 Series vs. 3M™ 1080 Series Wraps Some highlights of the differences are here: Advantages of the 2080 series include: Transparent and protective surface layer Powerful aesthetics Quality performance Thin and soft characteristics Exceptional conformability Reduced number of impressions and scratches Easy removal after application Use of 3M™ Knifeless Tape Eight and five-year warranties

I’m curious about temperature. At what temperature item could this be installed on? I’m thinking what I want to do would get to hot. A silencer on a dirtbike. Thanks
July 2, 2022 8:31 PM
Thanks for the great question. None of our vinyl wrap films will withstand the heat of a dirt bike's silencer. We aren't aware of any film or spray that would.
